NGT Becomes Strict Against Hill Mining

The NationalGreen Tribunal (NGT) has instructed to investigate against the hills that havebeen destroyed in the Khanapara-Jorabat area.

The NGT hasbeen strict against the destruction of the hills in the Assam-Meghalaya borderand has formed a special committee to investigate into the issue. The NGT hasasked the committee to submit a report within four weeks of the formation ofthe committee.

It may be mentioned that mining of the hills in the Meghalaya side in the stretch of Khanapara-Jorabat road has been continued since long for which it caused flash floods in the area.

The miningof the hills has also been a major cause for the artificial flood in Guwahatiand therefore, the NGT has asked to investigate on the issue and submit areport within four weeks by the special committee that was formed on Thursday.
