NRC: Man Accuses Wife Of Forgery

Pratidin Bureau

In a bizarre incident in Dhubri district of Assam, a man from Sapatgram town under Bilasipara sub-division of the district claimed that his wife is an illegal immigrant and forged documents to establish her lineage for the NRC.

The man identified as Akbar Ali said that his wife- Marzina Bibi- is not an Indian but a foreigner and he came to know about it while completing the paperwork for the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

"When I sought the requisite documents from her father's side for the NRC, she failed to bring so. Moreover, she stole one Hazi Kesan Ali's legacy data saying it's her grandfather's and submitted to get her name published in the
National Register of Citizens. But when she was repeatedly served notice to appear for the NRC hearing, I developed doubts," Akbar said.

"The truth is that Hazi Kesan Ali is in no way related to my wife. My father-in-law, Nizam Sheikh of Golakganj, has no documents to prove his Indian citizenship," he added.

He demanded stern actions against her.

"I don't want any foreigner's name to be included in the NRC, I don't care even if she is my wife or someone else for that matter. I want an error-free NRC," Akbar further said.

It may be mentioned here that Akbar and Marzina Bibi have been married for 13 years and the duo have two daughters as well.
