NRC not an issue for Tripura: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb

Pratidin Bureau

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said on Tuesday that unlike in Assam, there is no demand for a register like the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Tripura.

Deb made the statement on a visit today to Nagpur to meet Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters.  He reportedly stayed there for an hour.

"Everything is in order in Tripura and everyone has valid papers. Hence, it is not an issue for us," he said to the reporters present. He also alleged that some people have a 'foreign mindset' and are trying to debauch the atmosphere.

"I don't feel it is even a sensitive issue in Assam and its chief minister is capable of handling the situation," he added.

The NRC final draft was published on Monday, leaving out 40 lakh people in Assam, incorporating 2.89 crore names out of the 3.29 applicants.
