Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday paid tribute 'Xudhakontho' Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in New Delhi on the occasion of the legendary singer's birth anniversary.

Rajnath Singh paid tributes to the Assamese maestro while being present at the Northeast Students' Festival in the capital which was organized by 'My Home India', an NGO founded by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Deodhar.

While addressing the occasion, Singh also spoke about a number of important issues related to Assam and Northeast India. The Home Minister assured that no Indian national would be excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

"I want to say that no genuine Indian will be excluded from the NRC. It is absolutely necessary to know who are Indians and who are foreigners," said Singh as he asserted that the process of the NRC was carried out under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court.

Singh also emphasized on the development of the Northeast region. "Development of North East region is vital for country's progress. The Narendra Modi government is committed to increase communication and linkage as well as mobility in the region", he said.

"The Prime Minister wants speedy development of the region and stressed that India can only develop when the North East develops", Rajnath Singh added.
