Ranganadi water level increases, Lakhimpur alarmed

Pratidin Bureau

Alarming situation in Lakhimpur after water level of the Ranganadi river has been continuously increasing in the district. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has been releasing water from its Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri from February 9.

The water has been released as RHEP remained shut for repair and maintenance work at the tunnel.

Meanwhile, people living in downstream are worrying about flood-like situation if huge volume of water is released abruptly without maintaining the level of volume of water discharged.

It should be noted that due to sudden release of water from the RHEP, an embankment had breached and killed 11 people and wreaked havoc in Lakhimpur district in July, 2017.
