SC To Bid Farewell to CJI Today

Friday is the last working day of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoias he is set to retire on November 17. The bar association of the Supreme Courtof India has organized a farewell meeting at 4 pm today to bid farewell to theCJI.

Gogoi has been appointed the 46th Chief Justice on October 3, 2018, and during his tenure of 13 months, he delivered landmark verdicts like those on Ayodhya, the RTI jurisdiction, Assam's NRC, Rafale deal.

Gogoi joined as the Judge of the Supreme Court on April 23, 2012. Before that, he was posted as the chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from February 12, 2011 to April 22, 2012. He also served as the justice of Gauhati High Court from September 9, 2001, to February 11, 2011.

Born on November 18, 1954, Gogoi is the son of Keshab Chandra Gogoi who was the Chief Minister of Assam for two months in the year 1982.

Gogoi has done his schooling from Don Bosco School and completed hishigher secondary and degree from Cotton College and St. Stephens Collegerespectively.

He pursued an LLB degree from Delhi University and also cleared UPSC but he has chosen his profession as an advocate rather than to serve as an IAS.
