A team of scientists from Delhi University and Wildlife Institute of India, as well as some scientists from USA and Indonesia have discovered a new species of 'paddy frog' in Assam. The new frog Micryletta aishani was named after Sanskrit word 'aishani' meaning northeast, referring to the North Eastern Region of India where the frog was discovered.

The new frog is reddish-brown in colour and measures about 2.2-2.8 cm in length and has an absence of web on its feet. It has been found in the forest area of Cachar district.

This frog isremarkably beautiful belonging to the microhylid genus Micryletta from NorthEast India. They are active only during early monsoon.

A detailed study of its morphology wasconducted after collecting the specimen.
