Sewing machines worth over Rs 90 lakh seized in Guwahati

Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau on Monday seized more than 1,000 sewing machines from a godown at Chandmari, Guwahati. Value of the sewing machines is estimated to be Rs 94 lakh.

The machines were meant for supply under a scheme of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Assam.

Officials informed that they had conducted a search operation at the godown based on the questioning of one Pawan Kumar Agarwal, an accused who is now on bail. According to Agarwal's statement, the machines were purchased under the IGMSY scheme in 2015-16.
