Shiva Thapa assures medal for India in Finland

Assam pugilist Shiva Thapa is among eight Indian boxers that assured the country of medals at the GeeBee Tournament 2019 in Helsinki, Finland. Shiva entered the semi-finals of the 38th GeeBee Tournament on Saturday.

The former Asian Championship gold medallist Thapa thrashed Poland's Dominik Palak by 5-0 to enter in the semis in the 60kg category. Earlier he received an opening round bye. In the semi finals, Shiva will take on Russia's Mikhail Varlamov.

Besides Shiva, Sachin Siwach (52kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg), Kavinder Singh Bisht (56kg), Dinesh Dagar (69kg), Naveen Kumar (+91kg), Sumit Sangwan (91kg) and Govind Kumar Sahani (49kg) also confirmed medals for India.
