Assam loses Ranji tie against Odisha

Pratidin Bureau

The result seemed inevitable after the dismal show by the Assam batsmen on Day 1 and 2 of the Ranji Trophy encounter between Assam and Odisha. However, Sibsankar Roy fought relentlessly and played a lone battle to make Odisha bat again, when wickets were falling at regular intervals on the other end. Odisha had no problems chasing the set target of 14 runs which they achieved in 3.3 overs losing 1 wicket.

Assam needed a big partnership early on to make a game out of it, however, they had a disastrous start. Assam captain Amit Sinha was dismissed in the first over of the day by Rajesh Mohanty. Romario Sharma followed soon after. Arup Das was run out for 5, courtesy a brilliant direct hit from Debabrata Pradhan. Sibsankar Roy and Ranjit Mali played cautiously for a long time but both of them were dismissed in consecutive balls. Rahul Singh was the last man to be dismissed with Assam just managing 132 runs in their 2nd innings setting Odisha a target of just 14 runs.

Odisha managed to achieve the target easily losing just the wicket of Anurag Sarangi. Rajesh Mohanty was the chief destructor and picked up 11 wickets in the match. He was rightfully adjudged the Man of the match. The enormous win should give a lot of confidence to the Odisha team. Assam, on the other hand will need to fix their batting order.
