Sonowal confident ahead of Panchayat polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the Panchayat Polls by a huge marin, said the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday in  a high-level meeting at his residence to discuss the poll preparations.

Sonowal said , "The people of Assam will embrace us for development of the state and we will win the Panchayat election by a huge margin".

However, the Chief Minister refrained from speaking about coalition with Asom Gana Parishad in the upcoming  Panchayat Polls.

The Panchayat polls will be held  on December 5 and December 9 in two phrases in 26 districts and 14 civil sub-divisions. The counting will take place on December 12.

The last date for nomination for the first phrase is 15th November whereas the nomination date for the second phrase is 19th November.

A total of 1,56,41,456 voters will exercise their franchise out of which 8,12,38,35 are male and 7,51,76,21 are female voters. A total of 23,505 polling stations will be set up out of which 8243 polling stations have been marked as 'sensitive' and 3665 as 'very sensitive'.
