‘Sportsperson of 2018’ for Hriday Hazarika

India's teenage shooter Hriday Hazarika has been selected for the 'Sportsperson of the Year award' (2018).

The award will be conferred in the United Brothers Club (UBC) Assam Sports Award Ceremony to be held at the Madhabdev International Auditorium on June 26.

The programme will be attended by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and many well-known sports personalities in the state.

Hriday Hazarika — Junior World Cup gold medalist in Suhl (GER)— climbed atop the World Championship podium in Changwon (KOR), nailing a decisive 10.3 in a shoot-off against his Iranian rival, Amir Mohammad Nekounam.

Rising Shuttler Ashmita Chaliha will be honoured with the Upcoming Sportsperson of the Year award in the function. In addition to this, there are 11 sportspersons of various fields who will also be felicitated in the function.

The sportspersons are – Hemphu Bonjang (karate), Kabita Devi (fencing), Astha Choudhury (swimming), Golap Rabha (bodybuilding), Bijoy Deka (marathon), Nishanta Bordoloi (trainer), Dr Jnanankar Medhi, Dr Santanu Dutta, Dr Bibhash Bhagawati, Prakash Basumatary, Amitabh Dutta (all iron man).

Cricket coach Nabab Ali and Ganesh Rai have been selected for the Best Sports Promoter and Best Football Coach awards respectively.
