Tokay Geckos rescued from Barpeta

Seven numbers of Tokay Gecko which is known as 'Keko Xaap' in Assamese was rescued on Tuesday night from Howly in Barpeta district of Assam.

Policearrested two persons including a woman named Jiarul Islam of Kharisala villageand Amina Khatun of Kolgachia. Police informed that several others areabsconding.

Policealso rescued one Alto car with number AS-01DX-6365.

TheTokay Geckos are a type of Asian lizards protected under Schedule IV of theWildlife Protection Act, 1972 characterized by orange spots on the skin and ashrill croak. Possession of and trading in Tokay geckos are banned in thecountry and violation of the law is punishable by a jail term for up to threeyears.
