Top Cop From Assam Conferred With Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal

In a matter of pride for the state, an IPS officer from Assam, Shankarbrata Raimedhi on Sunday was conferred with the prestigious Union Home Minister's Special Operation Medal. This is the second time the decorated officer has been honoured with the recognition.

An Assam-Meghalaya Cadres IPS Officer of 2011 RR, Mr. Raimedhi in the year 2020, was deputed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters. He was the former Nagaon Superintendent of Police (SP).

He was also awarded Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation in 2019 for arresting the prime accused of gruesome gang rape and murder of a 12-year-old in the district.

He then went on to become the first Assamese top cop to be honoured with the Special Operations Medal launching a successful anti-terrorist operation against the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2020.

Over 390 personnel belonging to the police force in Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, and Karnataka along with those from the NIA, the CISF, the NDRF, and the ITBP have been chosen for the medal and As many as 16 personnel of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been awarded the medal this year, according to the home ministry.

Moreover, 260 personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been awarded the Union Home Minister's Special Operation Medal on National Unity Day.
