Transport Department to halt country boats,introduces 3 new vessels

After the tragic capsize incident of a mechanized country boat on the Brahmaputra River on Tuesday, the transport department has taken the decision of halting the country boat service during monsoon.

Three new vessels have also been announced between Guwahati- North Guwahati by transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

A new draft for constitution of a Regulatory Body which will soon be placed before the Assembly for approval.

Meanwhile,expressing grief,PM Modi tweeted "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the capsizing of a boat near Guwahati in Assam. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.The State Government is working and ensuring all possible support on the ground".
