Trial run of Guwahati-North Guwahati ropeway conducted

It is a historic day for the people living in North Guwahati as the first trial run of the much-awaited ropeway, connecting the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra was conducted on Tuesday.

The said ropeway system will be operational from Kachari Ghat at Panbazaar to Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati. The total length of the ropeway is approximately 2 kilometers and total travel duration from each of the terminals will be around 8 minutes.

The ropeway will also be an alternative mode of transport to the city for people living in North Guwahati. "The ropeway is a twin track, single haul, bi-cable double reversible jig back system," informed an official.

After completion it will be the country's longest river passenger ropeway. The ropeway is being constructed by Samir Damodar Ropeways.
