Tribute to ‘Hemkosh’ creator

The Golaghat District Journalist Association (GDJA) in association with Sahitya Sabha observed the 123rd death anniversary of 'Bhaxar Oza' Hem Chandra Baruah on Tuesday by paying rich tribute.

In this regard, lighting the lamp before the bronze statue of Bhaxa Oza Hemchandra Baruah was done by journalist Sonaram Bharali, president of GDJA.

Another detailed discussion programme on writer, lexicographer and social reformer Hemchandra Baruah's various works on Assamese language will also be held in Gauhati University premise on Wednesday.

Hemchandra Baruah's greatest work was the first Assamese-EnglishDictionary 'Hemkosh' which was published in 1900 after his death. Thisdictionary is not only a pride to Assamese people but also the base of Assameselanguage till date.

Hemchandra Baruah's contributions towards Assameselanguage were not less than a complete institution. He is like a father to thelanguage.
