Tripura Government To Impose Fine For Littering

The Tripura government is considering to fine citizens found littering, unscientific disposal of waste and urination in open space.

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb, during the inauguration of a week-long training programme of Solid and Liquid Waste Management in Agartala on Monday.

The workshop aims at generating awareness on best practices adopted in other places in modern days' waste management through collection of segregate garbage at source and thereafter recycling them.

The Chief Minister urged people not to dump garbage and poly bags in the open and drains as it leads to blockage of the sewerage system.

"Rather, there should be awareness on the benefits and how to keep the society clean," he said.

Deb also reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the most ambitious Swachh Bharat Mission (SBA) well before National Green Tribunal (NGT) direction came.

He also said that Indians have joined hands in the crusade to make India clean.

"Tripura has also marked a significant development in SBA implementation and by this time Udaipur and Sonamura of the state have been awarded for cleanliness at the national level. The cleanliness movement of the Prime Minister has already reached to the grassroots level, but to achieve cent per cent success, all of us has to join hands in mission mode," said the Tripura CM
