The Jorhat Police arrested a man on charges of sexually molesting his minor niece on several occasions. He is the paternal uncle of the nine-year-old and the elder brother of her father.

It may be mentioned here that though the minor wasadmitted to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) on 26 August, theincident come to light recently, after an advocate approached Guwahati-basedsenior journalist Gautam Sarma to take over the case after police have nottaken any action regarding the incident.

Later, Police swung into action and arrested accused uncle under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, after journalist Sarma approached bureaucrats in Dispur.
