Union Budget neglected Assam: PK Mahanta

Former Assam ChiefMinister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Friday said that the Union Budget 2019-20has neglected the needs of the people of Assam as well as Northeast. He furthertermed the Union Budget as a disappointment for people of Assam.

"Therewas nothing new for the people of Assam," Mahanta said. He also said that therewere no mention of Assam flood and erosion in Finance Minister NirmalaSitharaman's speech. "There was nothing to solve the flood and erosion problemof Assam," said the Ex-CM.

Healso said that the Finance Minister has mentioned about the Ganga and otherrivers of the country, however, she did not mention anything about mightyBrahmaputra. "The Union Budget has simply neglected the people of Assam," saidMahanta.

Further,reacting to Finance Minister's speech that began with a quote from Kautilya's'arthshastra', Mahanta said that there was no reflection of Kautilya's theoreticalprinciples in Sitharaman's budget.
