Union Jal Shakti Minister reviews Assam floods

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday undertook an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Upper Assam districts. He also discussed the prevailing flood situation with the officials of district administrations and concerned departments.

Shekhawatalso reviewed the flood situation during a meeting in Guwahati. The Stategovernment informed about the present status of the flood in Assam.

It may be mentioned here that as of today, total 4,620 villages in 124 revenue circles of all 32 districts of Assam have been affected in the flood.

Meanwhile, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal requested the Union Minister to take early steps for the constitution of North East Water Management Authority recommended by High-Level Committee headed by Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog.

On the other hand, the central government has approved a sum of Rs. 251.55 crore for relief and rehabilitation work in Assam.
