Use of plastic bags banned in Haflong

The Chairman of Haflong Town Committee in Dima Hasao has issued an order imposing a ban on sale and use of polythene bags, plastic water bottles or tea glasses in the region.

As per the order, all businessmen and shopkeepers, including vegetable vendors, are prohibited to sell and use plastic products as they cause pollution, drain blockade and health hazard.

The order further states that penalty of non-compliance with the same shall amount to a fine of Rs 5000.

The town committee has also requested the public in general to cooperate with the administration to make Haflong a polythene free town for larger interest of the public.
