West Bengal starts Anti-NRC rally ‘Assam Chalo’

Pratidin Bureau

Around 10,000 anti-NRC activists of All India Yuva Mancha set out on a protest march 'Assam Chalo' from West Bengal to Assam.

The protest rally has already started against the publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

Holding placards, the activists raised slogans against the BJP government, PM Narendra Modi, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela.

A leader of the anti-NRC movement, Ranbeer Talukdar said to media that in the name of the NRC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam had deliberately omitted names of Hindus from the list, a claim which has been denied by the saffron party.

"India is also known as Hindustan, the land of the Hindus, Hindu families must be allowed to enter India by the government."- Talukdar added.
