Writing an open letter to Sarbananda Sonowal, singing sensation Zubeen Garg has once again firmly opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

"We are ashamed to call Sarbananda sonowal as 'Jatiya Nayak' (people's hero) anymore. Our agitation programmes will continue against the Bill. In a democracy if the voice of people is not heeded by government and political parties, we have the power to remove any government."

"AASU, KMSS and all ethnic organizations have staged protest to convince the Centre not to pass the Bill. But centre clearly indicated that it will be passed."

"The word 'Paribartan' sounds good to ear. I will be out of the state for a week. But, when I will return, I will go for protest" – Zubeen Garg quoted. (The letter has been edited for clarity)

Through the letter, he has urged the people of Assam to stay united against the bill and also warned the government of consequences.

Earlier, in a Bihu programme, the singer even went on to say that one should tear up the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

It may be mentioned here that various organisations and opinion leaders have alleged that the bill would breach the clauses of the Assam Accord of 1985 which clearly states that any Bangladeshi national who comes to Assam after 1971 shall be deported, irrespective of his/her religion.
