4 policemen arrested in Tamil Nadu custodial deaths

The custodial death of the father-son duo in the Sathankulam area of Tamil Nadu has taken a new turn with the arrest of three more police personnel on Thursday. With this, a total of 4 police personnel were arrested by the Madras High Court-appointed CB-CID team, which was appointed to probe into the deaths caused by alleged police brutality.

The three arrested today include station inspector, Sridhar; sub inspector Balakrishnan and a constable named Murugan. Earlier, on Wednesday, sub inspector Raghu Ganesh was sent to judicial custody on the night of Wednesday.

The father and his son, who were arrested on June 19 for keeping their mobile shop open 15 minutes beyond the pandemic-induced deadline, were allegedly subjected to police brutality, finally causing their death. The incident has caused a national uproar, with scores of people demanding a fair and thorough investigation into the matter.
