9 Sikkim Women Arrested For Burning Effigy Of Baichung Bhutia

A total of nine Sikkim women were arrested on Sunday for burning the effigy of footballer Bhaichung Bhutia at a park on June 9.

There were reportedly 19 women involved in the burning of the effigy. Nine of them have been arrested so far.

A case has been filed against the women under section 188/34 IPC and section 51 of Disaster Management Act 2005 for the violation of the law.

Their identities have not been revealed yet.

As per a report, the women burnt the footballer's effigy following his comment on Namchi Hospital Project, which he believed should be stopped and upgrade existing hospitals instead in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Police said investigation on the matter is currently underway.
