All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) has been ordered by the Delhi High Court to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 as costs to an MBBS aspirant.

The order from the court comes after the student was denied to appear for the entrance exam. The students was denied after the controller of examination could not scan the candidate's Aadhaar card at the center because of which the student had to delay his dreams for one more year.

Delhi High Court also issued also issued a slew of direction to avoid a repeat of the incident in future.

The court observed that the controller of examination of AIIMS adopted a callous attitude in unnecessarily depriving the student from appearing in the exam.

However, the court has refused for a re-exam as it would cause a lot of disturbance to other candidates who have already appeared in the exam. The court also said that it would not be fair if the students are imposed with burden of another entrance exam.

"In view of the non-responsive attitude of AIIMS, both to the candidate's representation and before this court, the petitioner deserves to be compensated with costs for the treatment that has been meted out to him. In view of the harassment and frustration caused to the petitioner, AIIMS is directed to pay costs of Rs 50,000 to the petitioner," Justice Prathiba M Singh as quoted by PTI.
