Pratidin Bureau

The Centre's lawyer has submitted two letters to the Supreme Court on Monday as it heard a petition of the Shiv Sena, Congress and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) against the surprise government formation by the BJP's Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday morning.

SolicitorGeneral Tushar Mehta asked for more time to give details to respond to thepetition, which calls the manner in which the BJP took power in Maharashtraunconstitutional.

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the BJP outmaneuvered the three parties that had been in talks for days to form an alliance. President's Rule was revoked at 5.47 am with Prime Minister Narendra Modi using a special rule to approve it without a cabinet meeting.

The Solicitor General said that Ajit Pawar had submitted letters of support from all 54 NCP. Mehta further stated that Ajit Pawar submitted a letter on November 22 with signatures of 54 MLAs.
