Amit Shah Tables Bill in RS To Extend Prez Rule

Union HomeMinister Amit Shah moved a bill in Rajya Sabha on Monday to extend President'sRule in Jammu and Kashmir by another six months.

The statehas been under Governor's rule and subsequent President's Rule since June lastyear after the Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP) broke itsalliance with the BJP.

The movecomes in after the legislators questioned the delay in conducting Assemblyelections in Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commission earlier announced thatthey are considering conducting polls in the state by the end of this year.

Placing thebill, Shah said that keeping all stakes in mind it is only logical to extendPresident's Rule by another six months in the state.

The President'sRule which is due to end in July 2 was first proclaimed in the state on January3, 2019.

Talkingabout conducting the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said that the EChad decided to hold elections by the end of this year keeping the ongoingreligious festivities of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra, migration of theGujjar-Bakarwal community and the security situation in the state.

Shah alsomoved the Upper House to discuss and pass the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation(Amendment) Bill 2019 earlier on Monday.
