CBI To Deploy Officers In SC

Pratidin Bureau

The Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi has askedthe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to deploy officers in the SupremeCourt registry.

CBI Director, Rishi Kumar Shukla who has confirmedthe imminent deployment of his officers said that the Supreme Court has askedthem to send officers on deputation. However, the director has refused to sharedetails of how many officers and of which rank are likely to be deputed as theapex court by the central anti-corruption agency.

There are diversing rationales being offered for therequest.

According to an official who is familiar with thedevelopment said that the CJI has asked for officers of the rank ofSuperintendent of Police (SP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and eveninspectors who will be tasked to monitor activities within the registry toensure that there is no preference shown in the listing of cases and employeesdo not leak information to lawyers and perhaps even verifying the credentialsof employees who are posted in the registry.

This is the first time that CBI officers will bedeployed in the Supreme Court.

Moreover, the CBI is already legally empowered to investigateany form of corruption across the country but it doesn't have powers to investigateanything related to the higher judiciary without the permission of the topcourt itself.
