Centre prohibits onion export

Amid the rising price of the onion, Narendra Modi-led BJP government has decided to prohibit the export of all varieties of onions all over the world from Sunday (September 29). The government has decided to amend the export policy of the vegetable till further notice.

"Export policy of Onion isamended from free to prohibited till further orders. Hence, export of allvarieties of onions is prohibited with immediate effect," the Union Ministry ofCommerce and Industry was quoted by ANI.

The decision was taken due to the supply shortage of onion across the country.
