Chandrababu Naidu stages hunger strike against Centre

Pratidin Bureau

Demanding special status for the state, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu began a day-long fast in Delhi on Monday. He recalled the promises made by the center when Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 and urged  the center to fulfill them.

Before heading to Andhra Pradesh Bhavan to observe the fast, Naidu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, National Conference's Farooq Abdullah and Nationalist Congress Party's Majeed Memon also joined Naidu's protest.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)  walked out of  BJP-led NDA last year over what its chief described as "injustice" done to Andhra Pradesh after its bifurcation.

Naidu accused the Narendra Modi government of going back on a long-awaited promise of special state status for Andhra Pradesh.

The chief minister has participated in 'Dharma Porata Deeksha' in 11 districts of Andhra Pradesh so far.
