Consumption of illicit liquor kills 4 in Uttar Pradesh

Consumption of illicit liquor has led to the death of four persons and more than 10 who are critically ill in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have expressed concern over number of deceased as it is likely to increase.

The incident occurred in Sichendi area of the district. Reportedly, following the consumption of the adulterated liquor, victims started vomiting after which they had been rushed to a hospital on Saturday. Four of them were declared dead by the time they reached nearby medical facilities.

A magisterial probe has been ordered into the matter and the local excise inspector has been suspended. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of two Lakhs rupees to next kin of each deceased.

District Magistrate has informed that a FIR has been lodged against the local liquor vendor from where liquor had been brought.
