Covid-19: India Crosses 4 lakh infections

India on Saturday crossed the 4 lakh-mark as the country reported over 14,000 cases, its highest ever single-day jump in infections. For the first time, India on Saturday morning reported 14,516 fresh coronavirus cases in a single day, pushing the country's Covid caseload to over 3.95 lakh.

However, by evening, several states reported over 5,000 coronavirus cases.

This is the third consecutive day that India registered a record jump in the number of coronavirus cases.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country by the pandemic, alone reported 3,874, its highest ever jump in a single day, on Saturday. The latest spike in cases took the state's total tally to 1,28,205.

Globally, the novel coronavirus has infected count over 86 lakh people and taken the lives of 4.5 lakh people across the world. In US, the current epicentre of the pandemic, 22 lakh people have been affected by the highly contagious virus, while 1.1 lakh have died due to it.
