Five Maharashtra dams release excess water, warning issued

Due to heavy rains, water has been released from five dams in North and Western Maharashtra in catchment areas.

Warning has been issued in villages on the banks of the Mutha and Godavari rivers as their levels were likely to rise due to the water release. 

People residing on the banks of the Bhatsa River in Thane district had been alerted in the wake of the releasing waters from the Bhatsa dam.

Simultaneously, villages situated on the banks of the river in Shahapur and Murbad talukas have also been put on alert.

It may be noted that the Shahpur dam is one of the major sources of water for Mumbai and Thane.
