Heavy rainfall claimed 65 lives in UP, leaves many injured

The death toll due to rain related accidents in Uttar Pradesh has risen to 60, with many others reported injured.

Incessant rainfall has wreaked havoc across 35 districts of the state since Thursday, with Faizabad district being the worst-affected.

Several National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed to assist with relief operations after the state government directed officials to provide immediate aid in the affected areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department, numerous districts of the state-  Sonebhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia, Maunath Bhanjan, Azamgarh, Deoria- will continue to experience heavy rainfall and storms.

The state has suffered a heavy loss of life and property. Apart from the multiple lives lost, several animals have been harmed and more than a hundred houses have been damaged.

On a related note, Yamuna River in the capital has crossed the danger mark after torrential rainfall.
