Pratidin Bureau

The Hima Das led  women's4x400m quartet of MR Poovamma, Saritaben Gayakwad and VR Vismaya failedmiserably in the World Relays in Yokohama on Saturday  as they finished fourth in heat number 3, clocking3 minutes 31.93 seconds

They eventually emerged as 17th place finish overall. Thetop 10 finishers in both the men's and women's 4x400m relays and the top 12 inthe mixed 4x400m qualify for the World Championships to be held in Doha inSeptember-October.

So Indian team did not qualify for the World Championship.

Hima Das was a doubtful starter but she was inducted in theteam as she improved her back and ran the first leg and she was joint second in52.60 when she handed the baton to Poovamma.

But India dropped down to sixth by the time Poovammacompleted the second leg. India was still at sixth after Gayakwad completed thethird leg but Vismaya, who ran the final leg, made some recovery to take theteam to fifth. But after the Ukraine team was disqualified, India jumped tofourth in the heat.

The Indian team's timing was a shade better than thesilver-winning effort of 3:32.21 in the Asian Championships without Hima Daslast month.

In fact Indian athletes disappointed at the men's 4x400mteams finishing at 17th position while the mixed 4x400m quartet stood 15th.
