Indo-Bangla Border To be Sealed by 2020

The Centrehas decided to complete the fencing of India-Bangladesh by 2020 and the unionhome ministry has set the deadline after around 2803.013 kms have already beensealed.

Ministerof State for Home Nityanand Rai said in the Parliament earlier this week thatthe remaining 169.64 kms will be sealed by December 2020 adding that a totalarea of 3326.14 kms have been sanctioned for fencing.

Accordingto a senior home ministry official, illegal migrants as well as the anti Indiaactivists take advantage of the porus border to sneak into the country. He saidthat India's land borders are characterized by deserts, mountains, forests andriverine terrain.  

Meanwhile,Nityanand Rai said that government has adopted a multi-pronged approach tocontain cross-border infiltration which inter-alia includes deployment ofBorder Guarding Forces along the International borders, erection of borderfencing & floodlighting, effective domination of the borders by patrolling,laying Nakas, manning observation posts along the borders.

He alsosaid that the Centre has also taken up measures for vulnerable areas by mappingof Border Out Posts, deploying of surveillance equipments, strengthening ofintelligence network, anti-tunneling exercise in vulnerable areas anddeployment of technological solutions in non-feasible areas like riverine gapsalong the border areas.
