J&K: 2 LeT militants killed near LoC

Two LeT militants entering the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir were shot dead by the Indian Army 100 metres from the Line of Control past midnight on Saturday.

One of the two terrorists has been identified as 23-year-old Idrees Ahmad Bhat, a local from Kupwara's Handwara area. "We believe the two are part of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba ," a senior police officer said as reported in the Hindustan Times.

The army also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition which included AK 47 rifles, bullets, grenades and pistols.

An encounter was carried out by the army's Sikh Light Infantry soldiers. The Hindustan Times reported a senior police officer said the soldiers had spotted the two terrorists moving from an area close to a Pakistani Post across the Nowgam sector in Kupwara district. They had cut the fence to cross the LoC and were stopped by the soldiers about 50-100 metres later.
