Justice PC Ghose to be India’s first Lokpal

Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, former Supreme Court judge, is likely to be appointed as the country's first Lokpal, governments sources said on Sunday.

The government is expected to make an official announcement on his appointment by next week.

According to reports, his name was finalised by the selection committee, comprising the prime minister, chief justice of India, Lok Sabha speaker and an eminent jurist, on Friday. Justice Ghose is the most senior member of the National Human Rights Commission, having been a part of it since June 2017. He is a former judge of the Calcutta High Court and former chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
