Maharashtra: BJP, Shiv Sena Meets Governor Separately

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena areholding separate meetings with the Governor of Maharashtra on Monday amidongoing tussle over the formation of the government in the state.

While Shiv Sena's Diwakar Raote met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at 10.30 am, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also visited the governor at 11 am. However, both parties maintained that the meeting is just a courtesy call.

Raote after meeting the Governor said that this wasjust a Diwali meet. "From 1993, I have been coming to meet the governor on thefestival. I met the governor and his family and wished him on Diwali," saidRaote.

On the other hand, Fadnavis said that it just that he got an appointment a little early and so he is there. No political talks at all said Fadnavis after meeting the Governor.

The meeting comes amid an ongoing feud over the chiefminister post in Maharashtra. The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has an absolutemajority in Maharashtra assembly. BJP has 105 MLAs while Shiv Sena has 56 MLAs.

However, the newly elected Shiv Sena MLAs on Saturdaydemanded that both the parties run the Maharashtra government for two and ahalf years each. The MLAs demanded that Aasitya Thackeray be made the CM in thenext government for 2.5 years.
