Mary Kom Enters Quarter Finals of WWBC

Six-time champion MC Mary Kom advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Women's Boxing Championships (WWBC) on Tuesday after a hard-fought victory in the last 16 stage.

Mary Kom triumphed 5-0 against Thailand's Jutamas Jitpong, aspunky boxer who kept the veteran on her toes with an aggressive approach butjust did not connect enough.

The third-seeded Indian, who got a bye in the opening round,spent the first three minutes getting a good measure of her opponent beforetaking control of the proceedings. Mary Kom, who chased her first world medalin the 51 kg division, picked up pace in the second round and was especiallysharp with her counter-attacks.

On the other hand, two Assam daughters Lovlina Borgohain andYamuna Boro will step up into the ring on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Shiva Thapa advanced to the semi-final in the national boxing championship by defeating Avishek Yadav in the quarter-final.
