The catastrophic flood of Kerala has claimed the lives of 324 people. More than one lakh people are sheltered in relief camps across the state. More rains in the state for the next 48 hours are predicted by The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday night to undertake an aerial survey of the flood ravaged areas on Saturday. However, bad weather caused the aerial survey to be cancelled.
Modi was received by Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his cabinet colleagues among others.
PM Modi reached Kochi on Friday after attending the funeral of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Earlier in that day Modi had tweeted "Later this evening, I will be heading to Kerala to take stock of the unfortunate situation due to flooding."
"Had a telephone conversation with Kerala Chief Minister…We discussed the flood situation across the state and reviewed rescue operations."

Rajnath Singh, union home minister undertook an aerial view of the flood hit reasons on 12th August and announced an immediate assistance of 100 crore for relief work .
