PM promises grand Vidyasagar statue at same spot

Pratidin Bureau

Blaming Trinamool Congress 'goons' over the vandalization of the Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar statue in Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised a "grand statue" at the same spot.

Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Mau, Prime Minister said:

The blame game is still on after the statue of the 19th century reformer was vandalised during the violence following BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata.

On Wednesday, many TMC leaders had changed their Twitter and Facebook profile pictures condemning the incident.

The BJP alleged TMC chief of conspiring to frame the national party by having the statue broken by her party workers.

Subsequently, pertaining to the violence, the Election Commission last night had curtailed campaigning in West Bengal and ordered electioneering to end at 10 PM.
