Polling for 13276 Panchayats underway in Punjab

Polling for the  13276 Panchayats is underway in Punjab. Polling  for the 675 gram Panchayats of Jalandhar is going on peacefully.
Around 12000 employees of the Police and civil administration have been deployed at the 1200 polling booths in the district to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections. Jalandhar recorded 11.8% voting till 10am.

Over 7000 employees have been deputed from civil administration while over 4500 police personnel are deployed on polling duty.

More than 8,000 candidates are in the fray for the positions of Sarpanchs and Panchs in the state.  As many as 13,276 sarpanchs and 83,831 panchs will be elected for 13,276 villages.

Almost 1.27 crore electors are expected to cast their votes in the polls.  Nearly 17,268 polling booths were set up by the State Election Commission and 86,340 personnel are deputed for the polls.
