Postpaid Mobile Service in J&K To be Restored From Monday

Postpaid mobile service in Jammu and Kashmir will berestored from Monday in a major step towards easing curbs in the state, theadministration announced on Saturday.

Principal Secretary of Planning Commission in Jammu and Kashmir and senior IAS officer, Rohit Kansal announced today at a press conference that the postpaid mobile services will stand functional from 12 noon on Monday in the remaining areas of the state.

The official said that the mobile services were slated to resume from Saturday but a last-minute technical hitch led to deferring of the resumption of services.

It was said by the Spokesman that the subscribers,however, will have to wait for some more time for Internet services to resumein the Valley.

Restrictions were imposed 69 days ago after the Centreabrogated the special status of the state. Kansal further stated that 99% ofthe state is now free from restriction.

The Spokesman also said that there has been a gradualremoval of restrictions since August 16 adding that the terror organizations suchas the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizb-il-Mujahideen continue to make attemptsto terrorize people in the Valley, which is why the restrictions were imposedso they could not hamper life and causes more deaths.

According to reports, partial landline service wasresumed in the Valley on August 17 and by September 4, all landlines, numberingnearly 50,000 were declared operational.
