Congresspresident Rahul Gandhi has lost his family's traditional seat Amethi on Thursday.However, Gandhi is assured of a win from Kerala's Wayanad constituency, butAmethi was a prestige seat for the Gandhi family which has held the bastion fordecades in addition to Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli constituency.

Conceding defeat to Smriti Irani in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi said, "I congratulate Smriti Irani for her victory in Amethi," adding, "I hope that she takes care of Amethi." He was addressing a post-results press conference.

Rahul Gandhi also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he respects the people's mandate.
