Sixteen people dead as under construction flyover collapses near railway station in Varanasi

At least 16 people were killed when two beams of an under construction flyover near the railway station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh collapsed today.

Arvind Kumar, Principle Secretary Home, informed that 16 bodies have been recovered so far and 3 people have been rescued. While a number of vehicles were crushed under the beams, casualties from the crash are unknown. It is likely that the death toll will rise as several people are feared to be buried under the rubble.

Senior officials from UP Bridge Coronation and local administration have reached the incident spot while  rescue and relief operations being initiated in full swing.

NRDF teams have been rushed to the spot. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also set up a committee to probe the incident.
