Sourav Ganguly Set To Be New BCCI President

Former Indian Cricket Captain Sourav Ganguly emerged as a consensus candidate to be BCCI's new President after Brijesh Patel appeared to have grabbed the coveted post.

Accordingto reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah will be the newSecretary while Arun Dhumal who is the younger brother of MoS Finance andformer BCCI President Anurag Thakur will be the new treasurer.

Thelast day to file nominations is Monday but no election will be held since allcandidates have emerged unopposed after weeks of lobbying and hectic parleys.

However, Ganguly, who is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), will have to demit his post in September 2020 as he will go into compulsory cooling-off period.

Reportsalso say that Ganguly will turn a new leaf albeit for 10 months even as a newchapter starts in Indian cricket. Ganguly also pulled a match typically likehis administrative guru Jagmohan Dalmiya that looked all but lost till hepulled it off at the last moment.

Moreover,Brijesh Patel who is backed by Tamil Nadu strongman N Srinivasan emerged thePresidential candidate when Ganguly remained non-committal on campaigning forthe BJP in the 2021 state assembly elections.

However,when most of the state units opposed the understanding, things changeddramatically.

Asenior official from North East affiliated unit while quoted by PTI said thatBrijesh was running for the President's post with Srinivasan actively lobbyingfor him. However, there was stiff resistance against him, the official said.

Hefurther stated that they are happy with Sourav Ganguly as the new President.
