Supreme Court of India on May 15 convicted Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for voluntarily hurting a 65-year-old man. The court however spared him a jail term in the 1988 road rage case.

A bench of Justices J Chelameswar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul reversed the High Court order and found Sidhu guilty; the bench said Sidhu is guilty of Section 323 of IPC.

Sidhu was fined Rs 1,000 for the offence and was not awarded any sentence.

The apex court also acquitted the co-accused Rupinder Singh Sandhu, who was sentenced to a three-year jail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case.
